Campaign issues statement at 71st ACHPR Ordinary Session

As part of the civil society engagement at the 71st Ordinary Session of the ACHPR, the campaign issued the attached collective statement, via it’s campaign partner, the African Policing Civilian Oversight Forum (APCOF) to the Commission. The statement, under Agenda Item 3: Human Rights Situation in Africa, calls on the commission to:
  • Collect and share disaggregated data on homelessness through research and engagement with civil society.
  • Engage with stakeholders to use data for evidence-based policies and decision-making in designing services for the homeless and the poor.
  • Utilise existing soft law tools within both the African and the UN human rights systems that collectively urge states to repeal laws and measures that criminalise life sustaining activities in public spaces; and/or criminalise and penalise homeless people or behaviour associated with being homeless.
